Cooling centers open in the NBC15 viewing area

UPDATED Tuesday, August 27, 2013 --- 11:01 a.m.

Here are some important reminders from the Madison Fire Department:

Older adults and young children are particularly susceptible to extreme heat. Residents should check in on vulnerable friends, relative and neighbors at least twice a day.

Air-conditioning is the number one protective factor against heat-related illness and death. People who don’t have access to air conditioning in their homes are encouraged to cool down in public buildings.

Libraries, malls, and community centers are a good place to go to escape the heat. Call 211 if you need a list of locations near you.
