Fitchburg Police warn residents of phone scam

Posted Friday, June 28, 2013 --- 9:38 a.m.

Fitchburg officers are warning residents about a certain type of phone scam that is popping up in our area.

In the scam, a caller identifies himself as “Officer Alex Martin from the criminal investigations department.”

He then demands that the person call back or there will be criminal proceedings against them. The call goes on to state that “the time is very short for them and that the matter is very sensitive.”

Police warn you not to wire any money when it comes to a call like this until you know it is legitimate. These calls try to play on resident's emotions, and try to get them to act in a short time frame when people do not make the best decisions.

If in doubt, call your local police department.
