Food Bank Issues A Precautionary Recall Of Bagged Salad

MADISON, Wis., October 18, 2012 — Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is joining Dole Fresh Vegetables in issuing a precautionary recall of a bagged salad product labeled under the “Dole American Blend” brand that may have been distributed on Monday, October 15 at a mobile pantry stop in Adams, WI.

The mobile pantry distribution happened at Burt Morris Park in Adams from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. It is made possible by a partnership between Second Harvest Foodbank and the Central Wisconsin Community Action Coalition. The mobile pantry contained enough food to serve 320 families who struggle with hunger.

The recall is part of a 10-state recall issued by Dole Fresh Vegetables after the product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have yet been associated with the recalled product, which is sold in 12 oz. bags coded A275208A or B, with a use-by date of October 17 and UPC 7143000933. Anyone who may have received product affected by the recall is asked to discard the product.

According to, “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious illness in a person who ingests it. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. The illness primarily impacts pregnant women, the elderly and adults with weakened immune systems. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should see a physician.”
