Lions Beach Closed Until Further Notice
The most recent water quality test conducted at Lions Beach resulted in elevated bacteria levels in the swimming area. Leisure Services takes weekly water samples to monitor E. coli bacteria and sends them to the State Hygiene Lab in Madison for testing. All previous results in 2012 have been good. However, our most recent sample result (2,419 ppm) requires us to close the beach until further notice. The water quality standard states that any test result between 0-250 ppm is safe for swimming. Any test result between 250-1,000 ppm is safe for swimming, but requires public notice. Any test result greater than 1,000 ppm requires the swimming area be closed for swimming until further notice. Beach closure signs will be removed when the sample result of one day of sampling following an exceedance is below the established criteria. Counts will vary during the season depending on usage and environmental factors. Please call Leisure Services at 755-3030 for questions.
