Scam Alert: Madison Police warn residents about bogus calls claiming to be from department

Posted Friday, August 16, 2013 --- 2:23 p.m.

Madison Police are warning residents about bogus calls that are happening in the city where the caller claims to be with the Madison Police Department.

The department says some residents are getting phone calls from a woman who speaks with an accent and claims to be with Madison Police.

The woman tells the citizens that they need to take care of a summons or a ticket within 45 minutes, or a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

In a couple of cases, victims have been told to call 713-357-6055 and ask for "Mr. Tom O'Brien."

Officers say that so far, those who've contacted the real MPD have recognized the calls as being bogus.
