Monona Issues Sprinkling Restrictions

POSTED: Friday, July 13, 2012 --- 11:40 a.m.

From the City of Monona Department of Public Works:

Voluntary Sprinkling Restrictions – Water Conservation

Due to the dry weather conditions, the demand for Monona water has increased to a level that is beginning to put stress on the aquifer that Monona relies on for its drinking water and fire protection. To ensure there is an adequate supply reserved for these services, the Monona Water Utility is asking for the cooperation of Monona residents with voluntary sprinkling restrictions and outdoor water use.

If it is necessary to water your lawn, the utility encourages residents, businesses, etc… to water according to the guidelines below:

Odd-numbered addresses should water on odd calendar days prior to 10:00 am or after 6:00 pm.

Even-numbered addresses should water on even calendar days prior to 10:00 am or after 6:00 pm.

The utility recommends not watering between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm due to significant evaporation rates.

Placement of new sod or yards at this time is not advised. There is no restriction for watering with a hand-held device for gardens, trees, plants, shrubs, etc…

Please ensure that you are not watering your driveway, sidewalk, or street.

The Monona Water Utility appreciates your cooperation with the voluntary outdoor water use restrictions. If the dry conditions continue or the demand on the aquifer continues to increase, the City may make these restrictions mandatory.
