POSTED: Tuesday, July 31, 2012 --- 9:00 a.m.

From the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

Madison, WI. July 31, 2012 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office would like to invite citizens to a “Night Out.” Come join the Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement agencies throughout the country for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7th. This unique crime and drug prevention event will be held at Kalscheur Park in the town of Cross Plains.

From 5:00 to 8:00 pm, numerous members of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office specialized units including: Tactical Response Team, Boat Patrol, Traffic Team, Motorcycle Patrol, K9 Unit, and Bike Patrol will be present. The Sheriff’s Office National Night Out will also feature representatives from the DNR, Cross Plains Fire and EMS, Reptile Rapture, Dane County Communications Center, Med Flight, and McGruff the Crime Dog.

The National Association of Town Watch introduced National Night Out in 1984 in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anticrime efforts. It’s a national program coordinated by local crime prevention agencies and organizations. Since 1984, the event has grown to involve more than 34 million people in over 10,000 communities from all 50 states.

This night is an opportunity for residents to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie. In addition, National Night Out strengthens neighborhood spirit, sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Kalscheur Park is located at 3734 County Highway P in Pine Bluff.
