UPDATE: Floods, mudslides close highways in SW Wisconsin; Home destroyed

UPDATED Tuesday, June 25, 2013 --- 4:15 p.m.

According to the WI Emergency Operations Center, a home has been destroyed in Crawford Co. due to flooding.

Three other homes received major damage, while 26 others received minor damage.

In Crawford Co., Highway 35 is closed in both directions from Lynxville to Prairie du Chien due to mudslides.

Highway 61 remains closed in both directions between Highway 60 and Boscobel because of Monday's mudslide.

Highway 171 is also closed in both directions from Highway 27 to 131 due to high water.

In Vernon Co., a builder fell onto Highway 56 near Genoa, but traffic was able to move around it.

BOSCOBEL, Wis. (AP) -- Mudslides and flooding have closed at least three highways in southwestern Wisconsin.

A landslide on Highway 61 in Crawford County has closed the road between Highway 60 and the bridge to Boscobel. The Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center notes the highway is covered in mud 25 feet high and 200 yards long. Mudslides and debris have also closed Highway 35 from Lynxville to Prairie du Chien. And flooding was closed Highway 171 from Highway 27 to 131.

State emergency officials say a boulder fell onto Highway 56 near Genoa but traffic can maneuver around it.

Flash flood watches and warnings are in effect until Wednesday throughout much of southern and western Wisconsin. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Crawford, Grant, Vernon, Kenosha, Lafayette, Green and Rock counties.

According to the Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center, a new landslide has closed Highway 61 in both directions.

The closure is between Highway 60 and the bridge to Boscobel. The road will likely be closed for several days.

No one was injured.

The mudslide is approximately 25 feet high and 200 yards long.

Crawford Co. also has the following road closures:

WIS Highway 35 is closed in both directions from Lynxville to Prairie du Chien due to mud slides and debris.

WIS Highway 171 is closed in both directions from Highway 27 to 131 due to water on the roadway.
