VIDEO REPORT: The Ironman Triathlon Is Today; Be Prepared For Traffic Delays

The Ironman Triathlon is now underway in Madison.

The event consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike race, and a 26.2-mile marathon.

Earlier this week, the Dane County Sheriff's Department issued a traffic advisory for this event. Read the press release below:

From the Dane County Sheriff's Department:

Madison, WI. September 7, 2012 – The Ironman Triathlon has become a staple event for citizens in Dane County over the last several years, attracting visitors from around the world to our community. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists to expect some traffic delays on Sunday, September 9th beginning at approximately 7:00 am when the event gets underway.

The course for Ironman can be viewed at A Reverse 911 will be sent out to some residents in western Dane County to remind those affected by the bike portion of the event to plan ahead for alternative routes, and/or allow extra time to reach their destination.

Throughout the day, Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement agencies will be directing traffic at major intersections along the course. Please use caution when approaching these intersections and follow the traffic directions given by law enforcement to ensure your safety and the safety of the Ironman participants and spectators.
