Traffic Alert: Lane Closures Resume At I-39/90/94 Wisconsin River Bridges

Posted Friday, September 7, 2012 --- 11:25 a.m.

From the Department of Transportation:

Work has resumed on the northbound I-39/90/94 bridge at the Wisconsin River in Columbia County. Traffic will be reduced to four lanes until November. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will use the southbound span during construction. The northbound bridge will be closed for maintenance and resurfacing.

The section of I-39/90/94 north of Madison is one of the busiest stretches of Interstate highway in Wisconsin and used heavily by recreational travelers and the freight industry to reach Wisconsin Dells and points north. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and anticipate delays during peak travel times, particularly northbound on Friday afternoons and southbound on Sunday afternoons.

Motorists are encouraged to dial 511 or visit www.511wi.gov for up-to-the-minute information on highway and travel conditions in Wisconsin.

It seems like this stretch of interstate (DeForest to Portage) is CONSTANTLY being worked on....this seems like at least the 3rd time in the past 4 or 5 years. Very annoying. Why can't they just do it all - and do it RIGHT - the FIRST time?
