Union Cab Offers Free Rides To And From Polls

Posted Thursday, May 31, 2012 --- 2:25 p.m.

From Union Cab:

This is an important year for elections in the school board, senate and house, as well as the position of Governor of Wisconsin, and for the President.

If transportation or mobility issues may make it difficult getting to the polls, let us help! Union Cab wants to make sure that each and every vote gets counted by offering free cab rides between your home and your local polling place. Our taxis and accessible vans* will be available to serve you while polls are open**.

Making an advanced reservation for your ride will help with timely transportation, but on-demand service will also be available for whenever you are ready. Please make sure you allow plenty of time for wait and travel to and from the polls; it's going to be a busy day and we will be serving as many people as we can.

*Accessible service may have a 30 – 60 minute wait. Please schedule service at least a day in advance, if possible.

**Free service to the polls will end 30 minutes before the polls close. If you are already at your polling place and need a ride home, the free service will still be available.

Support the Service with a Donation to Democracy in Motion

If you would like to make a donation to support free rides to the polls for voters, or have questions, please call (608)242-2005 and leave a message for Mel Marcum. You may also send checks to P.O. Box 8305, Madison, WI 53708-8305; payable to Union Cab of Madison with “Democracy in Motion” written on the memo line.

Union Cab will provide rides to any and all requesting to go to the polls and is non-partisan. Our drivers are professional and will refrain from discussing politics during election days.

Why are people making this our to be a bad thing? Really? People should vote on their own volition? What if you are elderly or for some other reason unable to drive, or get to the polling place. My god. You whiners will never stop complaining.

@"Silly Unions": Did you bother reading the WHOLE story or did you fail reading comprehension? Your question is answered in the last paragraph.

I think there should be laws against this. Anything on election day by any party or any interest should be illegal, at least in the masses. I'm not saying a individual can' go to their 10 neighbors and remind them to vote. Campaigning should end 12 midnight and there should be no mass arraignments made to get people to vote. Voters should vote on their own volition. Anyone physically unable to vote should have filled out an absentee ballot.
