MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Challenge Academy officials have scheduled an open house this week for potential applicants for its next class.

Academy staff members, cadets and cadets' parents will be on hand at Thursday evening at the National Guard armory in Milwaukee. They'll speak with teens and parents interested in the academy and help them with the application process.

The academy offers at-risk youth a chance to change their lives, including a chance to earn a high school equivalency diploma, learn job skills, improve physical fitness and learn leadership and coping skills.

The academy accepts male and female applicants at least 16 years and nine months old who have been expelled from high school, dropped out or fallen behind more by more than a year in credits.
