MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding deer hunters to check their clothing and gear for invasive plants.
DNR staffers say hunters should check themselves for seeds and soil and clean their clothes, boots and vehicles. Hunters should especially be on the lookout for common buckthorn. Its green leaves hang on the trees into late fall and its black berries standout against snow.
The nine-day gun deer season begins Saturday.
