Wisconsin DNR seeks frog call volunteers

Posted Monday, March 24, 2014 ---- 8:00 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin wildlife officials are looking for frog listeners.

The Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers willing to spend up to three hours listening to croaks at 10 wetland locations three times during the spring and summer.

Volunteers will record the abundance of different species' calls and information about weather conditions. The data will help DNR biologists determine frog and toad population status, distribution and trends.

Volunteers also can pick one wetland, lake or stream and listen for five minutes seven times a week as part of a separate DNR study on frog adaptation.
