MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin officials are warning fishermen of thin ice after Madison-area rescue crews rescued several over the weekend.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported Monday that crews pulled two fishermen from Lake Mendota on Sunday and responded to three other calls of breakthroughs as well.
Officials say all the rescued anglers are OK, but their experience should make others wary of the thawing ice.
State regulations require fishermen to remove shanties from the ice by March 3, but they are allowed to continue fishing after that at their own risk.
