Tuesday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Tuesday, June 5, 2012 --- 6:15 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democrats are trying to seize control of the state Senate in Tuesday's recall elections. The Democrats hope voters are angry enough over Republican Gov. Scott Walker's policies to oust at least one GOP incumbent.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Rebecca Kleefisch is the first lieutenant governor in U.S. history to face a recall election. On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Republican hopes to make sure it isn't successful. Her Democratic challenger is Mahlon Mitchell, a firefighter and union leader.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State election officials say local clerks have issued at least 206,000 absentee ballots for Tuesday's recall elections. Democrats have forced Republican Gov. Scott Walker and four other GOP officeholders into recalls as payback for passing a polarizing law last year that all but ended most public workers' collective bargaining rights.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Former Milwaukee Bucks owner Jim Fitzgerald has died at the age of 86. The team says Fitzgerald died Monday morning in his hometown of Janesville. Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider funeral home also confirmed his death. His cause of death was not released.
