RANDOM LAKE, Wis. (AP) --- Authorities in Random Lake say a high school student is recovering after partially severing several fingers in a shop class.

The 16-year-old boy suffered the injuries Friday just before 10 a.m.

Emergency responders say the teen appeared to cut completely through the bone on three fingers and also injured a fourth. All four fingers remained partially attached.

Random Lake school district Superintendent Tom Malmstadt says school officials are encouraged by the information they're getting so far. He says he's looking forward to having the boy back in school but he doesn't know when that will be.

Malmstadt declined to discuss how the injury occurred or who was present at the time.
