OLIVER, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities in the northwestern corner of Wisconsin are looking for the person who broke threw a dog off a bridge, leaving it with a broken back.

The owner of the 1-year-old chocolate Labrador named Bella rushed her to a veterinarian but she had to be euthanized.

Bob Mittlestad says the last time he saw his pet was Saturday in their home in the town of Oliver. That's near the Minnesota border by Duluth.

Mittlestad says he came home that night to find his door open and Bella gone.

Later, two fishermen told authorities a dog had been thrown off a bridge.

A Douglas County deputy didn't immediately return a message Tuesday asking whether authorities had any leads.
