Body Of Swimmer Recovered In Marathon County

Posted Monday, June 11, 2012 --- 9:45 a.m.

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Divers have recovered the body of a man who tried swimming across a Marathon County lake with his friends.

The body of 25-year-old Sharockie Kent was found about 8 p.m. Sunday in the Sunnyvale Park lake in Wausau.

Friends say they were trying to swim across the lake when Kent's head began to bob up and down and then he was gone. Jalissa Larbarge says she swam back to shore and called police.

WAOW-TV (http://bit.ly/MC2Jth ) reports police arrived a short time later, but with no lifeguards at the lake, the rescue effort had already become a recovery mission. Hundreds of park visitors were cleared out and the dive team entered the water around 5 p.m. -- about an hour after Kent disappeared.

Kent's uncle, Michael Washington of Rhinelander, says his nephew had just moved to Wausau from Mississippi last week to look for work.
