HUDSON, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a missing Minnesota teen has been recovered from the St. Croix River at Hudson.
Authorities say 18-year-old Alexander Cook, of Lake Elmo, Minn., was at Lakefront Park beach with several friends Monday when they decided to swim the 200-yard channel to the Minnesota side.
Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen says Cook made it about 50 yards when he began to struggle and went under. St. Croix County deputies, with help from Washington County, Minn. and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, recovered Cook's body shortly before midnight.
Jensen says the river's current is extremely strong because of its heightened water level.
