STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) -- Bond is set at $25,000 cash for the suspect in a Portage County crash that killed two women.

WSAW-TV reports the 22-year-old man made his first court appearance Monday. He appeared from jail by video.

The state had asked for $200,000 bond. A judge ordered the suspect not to have contact with the victims' families.

The suspect will return to court Aug. 5 for formal charges.

Daily Tribune Media reports the pickup driver was arrested after crashing into trees Saturday in the Town of Linwood. Authorities say Melissa Peterson and Stephanie Eberhardt, both 21, were back seat passengers and were killed in the crash. A front seat passenger, a 21-year-old Rudolph man, was extricated from the truck and airlifted to a Marshfield hospital. Authorities say he's in fair condition.
