PERSHING, Wis. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a man accused of fatally striking a hunter and injuring another along a Taylor County road was drunk when he hit the two.
Forty-two-year-old James Winchel, of Sheldon, is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and OWI causing injury. Sheriff's officials say several hunters were standing along a road in western Taylor County last Friday when two were struck.
Fifty-year-old Juan Salinas died at the scene. A 53-year-old man was taken to a Wausau hospital with leg injuries. Both were from Roscoe, Ill.
WEAU-TV reports Winchel was taken to a hospital in Eau Claire.
