MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The closing of schools and government offices due to the cold weather could delay the deadline for candidates for local office to file nomination papers.
The filing deadline for those seeking office in the spring election is Tuesday at 5 p.m. However, if offices where the paperwork is to be filed are closed because of the severe cold, the deadline is pushed back until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The Government Accountability Board is providing the guidance.
The GAB says that if schools are closed, but the district administration office is open, there is no extension of the deadline for those running for school board in the affected district.
Also, the deadline does not change if the office is closed on Monday but open on Tuesday.
