MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The barn owl, pygmy snaketail dragonfly and Butler's garter snake could be among the species removed from Wisconsin's endangered list. The upland sandpiper, leafhopper and fawnsfoot mussel could be added to the list.

The Department of Natural Resources is proposing eight additions to the state's endangered species list and 16 subtractions. DNR biologist Terrell Hyde says there are successes in restoring the population of some of the species and other species, like the Bewick's wren, that have never established a population in the state.

The endangered species list was established 40 years ago and currently includes 239 plants, animals and birds.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://tinyurl.com/9su8yg9 ) reports a plant recommended for delisting, the hemlock parsley, was recorded in the 1800s by Wisconsin naturalist Increase Lapham, but hasn't been seen for quite a while.

The DNR is inviting written comments on the revisions through Oct. 24.
