Decision 2012: Wisconsin Voters Navigate New Maps In This Month's Legislative Primaries

Posted Saturday, August 4, 2012 --- 10:40 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin voters will start wading through the state's post-redistricting landscape in this month's legislative primaries.

The races mark the first time new legislative boundaries Republicans designed last year will be in play.

The new districts have caused plenty of angst for lawmakers who find themselves on unfamiliar turf or facing colleagues. The changes also have opened the door for challengers -- more than a dozen Assembly incumbents face a primary fight.

The Aug. 14 contests will narrow the field for the Nov. 6 general elections, which will determine control of the Legislature. Republicans currently hold a 59-39 advantage in the Assembly. Democrats have a 17-15 edge in the Senate.
