SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) -- Douglas County has extended its employee smoking ban to include smokeless tobacco.

The county board has voted to prohibit use of snuf, snus or leaf tobacco on the job. County administrator Andy Lisak the biggest issue is cleanliness. Drinking fountains need to be kept clean and no employee wants to find soda bottles with spit juice in a county car.

Wisconsin American Lung Association policy director Donna Wininsky tells Wisconsin Public Radio News Douglas County is taking the lead in banning smokeless tobacco. She says it's fairly uncommon among local governments.
