Firefighters Among 6 Hurt In Wisconsin Duplex Explosion

Posted Monday, June 4, 2012 --- 6:45 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- An explosion and blaze at a Milwaukee duplex has injured six people, including five firefighters.

Deputy Chief Michael Romas said emergency personnel responded about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of gas leak at a two-story brick duplex.

The duplex exploded shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene. Three people -- two firefighters and one civilian -- suffered serious burns while the other three people hurt in the blast sustained minor injuries.

The resulting fire was quickly extinguished, and the cause of the explosion is being investigated.

James Taylor saw the explosion. He says the blast caused a fire fighter to be blown into him and they both ended up across the street.

Samuel Dorsey says he saw a big fireball and saw the blast blow the roof off.
