Friday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Friday, September 14, 2012 --- 7:40 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- Two people died and two others were injured last night when a suspected drunken driver crossed the center line of a Fond du Lac County highway. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Highway 45 just north of the Washington County line. A 10-year-old girl in their car was seriously injured.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee police officer was shot in the leg early this morning during a struggle with a suspect. The 24-year-old officer's expected to recover.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A judge will hold a hearing today to consider whether to throw out a lawsuit challenging the use of dogs in this winter's wolf hunt. A group of humane societies filed the lawsuit last month alleging the Department of Natural Resources failed to restrict dog training and use in the hunt, which could lead to deadly dog-wolf encounters. The DNR wants the suit dismissed.

HORICON, Wis. (AP) -- The Horicon National Wildlife Refuge has six new residents: whooping crane chicks. The birds will be released this fall with older birds that will lead them to Florida this winter. The chicks range in age from 12 to 15 weeks and are being cared for by biologists who wear bird costumes.
