GOP Senate Race Enters Final Days

POSTED: Wednesday, August 8, 2012 --- 8:55 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- As the contentious Republican primary race for U.S. Senate enters its final days, the candidates are making a last push to sway voters.

Two new polls being released on Wednesday shed light on where the race stands before Tuesday's vote.

Former Gov. Tommy Thompson, former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann, state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and businessman Eric Hovde are running.

Tammy Baldwin is the only Democratic candidate.

A poll by Quinnipiac University, the New York Times and CBS News shows Baldwin running closely against Thompson, Hovde and Neumann. She had a 12-point lead over Fitzgerald.

That poll did not ask voters which of the Republicans they favored.

However, that question was asked in a poll to be released later Wednesday by the Marquette University Law School.
