On Monday, hazardous materials response teams responded to the scene of a crash near the town of Shullsburg.
According to a release, a traffic crash was reported at 11:52 a.m. Monday. It happened on State Highway 11 at Summit Road in Shullsburg.
Lafayette County Sheriffs are still investigating the crash. A preliminary investigation indicated a large sized tow truck was northbound on Summit Road when it entered Highway 11, according to a release. The driver of the tow truck said he was unable to stop due to Summit Road being snow-packed and slippery. A semi-tract-trailer was eastbound on Highway 11 and both vehicles collided in the intersection.
According to a release, Highway 11 continues to be closed at that location while the crash scene is being investigated. Traffic is being detoured to highways 80, 81 and 23.
Shullsburg and Darlington Firefighters are also on the scene along with police.
Police anticipate Highway 11 to be closed for several hours while the vehicles are removed and the hazmat teams continue their work.
