Man Duct-Tapes Cat Found Killed in River

POSTED: Wednesday, Oct.3, 2012 --- 1:30 p.m.

MANITOWOC, Wis. -- Police have arrested the owner of a cat who was found duct-taped and dead in the Manitowoc River.

Authorities are recommending a felony charge of mistreating an animal against the 49-year-old Manitowoc man.

Police Detective Mike Stone says the man told investigators he was feeling suicidal and decided to kill the cat instead, a pet he had for about ten years.

A fisherman found the cat in the river Sunday. Stone says the animal's head and legs were taped. He says citizen tips led to the cat's owner.

The Herald Times Reporter (http://tinyurl.com/8t2trpd ) says a veterinarian who performed a necropsy determined the cat was suffocated and was probably dead before it was placed in the river.

Do we really need to be spending time and money on investigating the "cause of death" for a CAT?! This is ridiculous! So the cat's dead. It was his cat anyway! The poor suicidal man isn't dead and that's a good thing... Now we're going to put him in jail and tax payers have to pay for that too??? He probably won't get the mental health care he really needs - that's where our money should be going. Just ridiculous and sad.
