HAYWARD, Wis. (AP) -- Sawyer County authorities say a 68-year-old Menasha man drowned after attempting to swim to shore on Moose Lake in northern Wisconsin.
The sheriff's office says Thomas McNally was on a pontoon boat with his family Sunday morning when he decided to swim to shore near the Virgin Timbers Resort, where he and his family were staying on vacation. It says he was about 100 yards from shore when he started having problems and went under.
The incident was reported around 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Divers recovered his body around 1 p.m.
Moose Lake is between the cities of Hayward and Clam Lake.
