Mich. Company Cited for Violations at Wis. Foundry

Posted Wednesday, November 14, 2012 --- 11:03 a.m.

BERLIN, Wis. (AP) -- Federal safety officials have cited a Michigan-based metals maker for nine alleged safety violations at its iron foundry in eastern Wisconsin.

The citations were announced Wednesday against Grede Holdings LLC of Southfield, Mich.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it conducted an inspection in May of Grede Wisconsin Subsidiaries' iron foundry in Berlin. It says inspectors found a number of alleged violations, including equipment that was missing safety features and puddles of standing water near electrical equipment.

The citations carry proposed penalties of $56,320.

A message left with the company Wednesday was not immediately returned.

An OSHA statement says Grede has about 3,000 workers at its Berlin location. OSHA says the facility produces sand castings and specializes in gray iron.
