UPDATE: Michelle Obama to Visit Appleton Friday

UPDATED: Friday, September 28, 2012 --- 7:40p.m.

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- First lady Michelle Obama has returned to battleground Wisconsin as the Obama campaign tries to push the state's 10 electoral votes into the Democratic president's column.

Mrs. Obama spoke Friday to a crowd of more than 2,000 at Lawrence University in Appleton. She spent much of her speech citing her husband Barack Obama's accomplishments.

The Post-Crescent (http://post.cr/SrKwNE) reports the first lady drew loud cheers when she hit on health care reform, Pell grants for student aid and seeing through the conclusion of the war in Iraq.

Mrs. Obama says her husband is best fit to lead since he's lived the American dream himself.

She says the election "could come down to a few thousand votes."

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- More details are emerging about Michelle Obama's return trip to Wisconsin this week.

The Obama campaign say the first lady will speak to grassroots supporters at Lawrence University in Appleton Friday.

Mrs. Obama will encourage Wisconsin residents to help organize their communities between now and the Nov. 6 election. She also will promote voter registration and voting through the Own Your Vote initiative.

The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required due to limited space and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting Tuesday.

The visit will mark Mrs. Obama's second trip to Wisconsin in four weeks. She was in the Milwaukee area in August to offer condolences to the families of Sikh worshippers killed or injured by a gunman at their temple.
