MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police say an officer shot and killed an armed robbery suspect.
The officer responded Saturday afternoon to the report of an armed robbery. The suspect was trying to flee in a vehicle but crashed, then ran from the scene. Police say the officer tried to conduct a field interview of the suspect but that during the encounter, the officer feared for his life and discharged his weapon.
Police say the suspect was a 28-year-old man from Germantown. They did not release his name but say he was on probation and wanted on several warrants.
The 39-year-old officer is a 15-year veteran of the Milwaukee force. He has been placed on standard administrative leave. Police did not say why the officer felt threatened.
