More Wis. students shooting senior self-portraits

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Formal studio shots are giving way to self-portraits and images taken by friends as more high school students take advantage of digital technology to create their own senior portraits.

Photographer Todd Olson has been shooting senior portraits for students in Janesville, Wis., for a decade.

He says more students are taking their own pictures or pictures of their friends as cameras and photo editing software are becoming cheaper and easier to use. He says the economy is another factor because studio portraits can be costly.

Kyle Forster graduated from Delavan-Darien High School last spring. He took his own senior portrait with a camera on a timer. Some of his classmates did theirs with cellphones.

But Forster tells the Janesville Gazette self-portraiture isn't for everyone. Some of the photographs lack quality.
