Police Exchange Gunfire with Suspect in Waukesha

Posted: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 --- 8:50p.m.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) -- Waukesha police answering a domestic violence complaint have exchanged gunfire with a 76-year-old man at a condominium.

Chief Russell Jack says police were called around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Officers were meeting with a 75-year-old woman inside the unit when the man appeared, aimed a rifle at officers and fired.

Officers returned fire, left the unit with the woman and called for help. Neither the man nor the officers were struck by gunfire.

More than two dozen squad cars and emergency vehicles lined the road.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/SpuGoY) reports police took the man into custody. One officer suffered minor injuries and was being treated at a hospital.

The shooting happened just miles from Azana Salon and Spa in Brookfield, where a gunman killed three women Sunday before killing himself.
