Report Says $69 Million in Recall Spending Outside Wisconsin

POSTED: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 --- 9:35 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new report says two-thirds of the more than $100 million spent by candidates and other interest groups in the series of recall elections over the past two years went to vendors outside of Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign reported the findings on Tuesday.

It says that recall candidates and groups spent $32 million for campaign-related services to Wisconsin businesses and groups. But nearly $69 million went to services such as consulting, printing, mailing and other media services to businesses and groups outside Wisconsin.

The report was based on spending reports related to the recall elections of Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and 13 state senators.

More than half the total spent, about $56 million, was for radio and television ads.
