MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Department of Workforce Development has released new data that shows Wisconsin lost 6,200 private-sector jobs in April.

The new numbers are a setback for Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who faces a recall election June 5 against Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. Democrats have been hammering Walker over his inability to create jobs.

The job-loss numbers are based on a survey of 3.5 percent of Wisconsin employers.

Unemployment claims and a survey of 1,400 homes indicate the state's unemployment rate dipped slightly from 6.8 percent in March to 6.7 percent in April. The unemployment rate was 7.5 percent in April 2011.

The national unemployment rate for April was 8.1 percent, down slightly from 8.2 percent in March.

DWD officials cautioned the data is subject to revisions.

@Ray, yes the unemployment numbers have dropped from 7.5% yo 6.7% because there was a large number of people who were getting unemployment that became ineligible after the federal unemployment extensions expired. The unemployment rate only counts those getting benefits and not all who are unemployed.

Here's another example of Scott Walker being a liar. He has got to go!

It would also appear that WALKER LIED once again regarding yesterday's job numbers, and the new ad airing. SHOCKING.

"DWD officials cautioned the data is subject to revisions."= Walker hasn't finished going over how he wants to spin these numbers yet. We will hear in 2 weeks that they have been 'revised' to show that 12,000 jobs were created in April and it has nothing to do with the recall election.

Ok, the unemployment rate dropped from 7.5% to 6.7% from April 2011 to April 2012. Thank you for the information. I wonder why this wasn't the headline?

It would appear that massive tax cuts for big business do not, in fact, create jobs.
