KIELER, Wis. (AP) — An 8-year-old boy is dead after he was shot near Kieler. The Grant County sheriff's office was notified yesterday that a boy had been accidentally shot with a gun. The victim's identity has not been released.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin DNR officials caution that the drought continues, even though some emergency burning restrictions are being lifted after recent rains. Campfire bans will be lifted at Big Foot Beach, Lapham Peak, Richard Bong State Recreation Area, the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, and the Elroy-Sparta State Trail. Emergency burning restrictions remain in place in 11 counties.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A jury has convicted a Wisconsin woman of homicide by negligent driving for writing a text message before a fatal crash. Twenty-one-year-old Stephanie Kanoff of Sun Prairie was convicted yesterday. Kanoff had slammed into a University of Wisconsin-Madison student as he stood behind his broken-down car in 2010.
OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — A Maine man has been found guilty of transporting a 13-year-old Kentucky girl across state lines to engage in sexual activity. The U.S. attorney's office says a federal jury in Owensboro, Kentucky convicted 45-year-old Archie Whalen of Bristol, Maine on Thursday. Whalen was found guilty of taking the girl in 2009 from her home in Owensboro to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The girl was found a day after an Amber Alert was issued.
