Saturday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Saturday, October 13, 2012 --- 5:10 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — The Storm Prediction Center says severe thunderstorms are possible today from northeastern Iowa to Wisconsin and Minnesota. The prediction center, based in Norman, Oklahoma categorizes the area from Austin, Texas to Minneapolis and Milwaukee and Chicago as having a slight risk of severe storms.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee County jury has convicted one of Governor Scott Walker's former associates of stealing money donated to help veterans and their families. Jurors yesterday convicted 62-year-old Kevin Kavanaugh of Cudahy of stealing more than $51,000. Prosecutors alleged that Kavanaugh had skimmed the money from bank deposits and phony withdrawals from accounts for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a veterans service organization.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan sought more food stamp benefits, stimulus cash and other government support behind the scenes as a member of Congress. An Associated Press review of thousands of pages of documents found he voiced support for the types of government assistance he now rails against as Mitt Romney's running mate. But Ryan's spokesman says the letters are nothing more than a Congressman doing his job by helping constituents navigate the federal bureaucracy.

NEW YORK (AP) — Minnesota-based Best Buy says it has authorized its store staffers to match online prices of competitors this holiday season. Best Buy and others already offer price-matching guarantees for local competitors' brick-and-mortar stores. The offer is valid November 4th to November 17th and November 27th to December 24th.
