UPDATE: Parents Charged with Neglect in Girl's Death

UPDATED: Friday, September 21, 2012 --- 5:00p.m.

SIREN, Wis. (AP) -- The parents of a 3-year-old girl who accidentally drowned in Danbury last month are now charged with neglect in her death.

Online court records show 33-year-old Jenna Danish and 42-year-old Thomas Jay Williams were charged Friday in Burnett County with felony child neglect resulting in death.

The body of their daughter, Reena Mae Williams, was found Aug. 15 in a canal near her home after she went missing the evening before. A neighbor had earlier seen the girl walking in the street.

Sheriff Dean Roland tells KARE-TV (http://kare11.tv/Q2ZrBP ) that a judge still needs to approve arrest warrants for both Danish and Williams.

Online court records do not list defense attorneys for Danish or Williams. A home telephone number for the parents could not be found.

UPDATED Thursday, August 16, 2012 --- 6:50 p.m.

DANBURY, Wis. (AP) -- Preliminary autopsy results indicate a 3-year-old Wisconsin girl found dead in a canal near her home died of apparent accidental drowning.

Burnett County medical examiner Mike Maloney says an autopsy was conducted Thursday on the body of Reena Mae Williams.

Maloney says the girl had water in her lungs consistent with normal signs of drowning. He says her body had a couple of little scratches but no trauma or anything suspicious.

Final autopsy results won't be available until four to six weeks when the toxicology report comes back.

Divers found Reena's body Wednesday afternoon in a canal about 25 yards from her home in Danbury.

Hundreds of volunteers and law officers had searched for the girl after she apparently wandered away from her home Tuesday.

UPDATED: Wednesday, August 15, 2012 --- 7:31p.m.

Danbury, Wis (WEAU) - The body of a little girl missing since Tuesday evening was found just a few yards away from her home.

Investigators say around 7pm Tuesday, three-year-old Reena Mae WIlliams wandered off from her home in Danbury.

Investigative teams and volunteers launched a massive search effort.

At a news conference Wednesday evening, new details were released.

Search teams found Reena's body about 25 yards from her home in a canal about three feet deep.

It's an area her family launched boats into the water.

The family dog was with the girl leading up to the disappearance and returned wet a while later.

That gave investigators a hint as to where the girl might have been.

Shortly before 5pm, search crews found her body in the water.

The investigation remains open, but no criminal intent is believed at play.

Reena's father was the last person to see her about 90 minutes before she went missing.

DANBURY, Wis. (AP) -- Hundreds of volunteers are helping search for a missing girl in Burnett County.

Sheriff's officials say 3-year-old girl Renna Williams apparently wandered away from her home in Danbury about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Danbury is about 60 miles south of Duluth, Minn.

County Emergency Management Director Rhonda Reynolds says at least 500 volunteers are helping look for the girl Wednesday.

Reynolds says the search is complicated by the number of trees blown down in the area last summer.

The Duluth News Tribune reports about 50 law enforcement officers are conducting the search.

Helicopters from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota State Patrol have been used in the search.

The DNR is searching the St. Croix River and Danbury dam, which is 2 to 3 miles from the girl's home.

My heart goes out to that little girl. I have been following this story since the day I heard she went missing. Her family is I hope going to serve time for neglecting their 3 year old. The fact that the neighbors found her earlier on that day a MILE from her home is just poor parenting, and the neighbors maybe should have notified the authorities at that time. Maybe that would have prevented the death of an innocent little girl. I cant even imagine how scared she must have been out there on her own. I am a mother of a 4 1/2 year old, and cant even allow her out of my site without making sure she is ok. Her father last saw her 90 minutes before she disappeared???? Nice parenting skills! It's people like that who make me proud to be as good of a mother as I am!! Still.....shame on you careless parents, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

I use to live up there when i was that little girls age, i'm so sorry her adventures led to her loseing her life. I get the wondering off and exploreing i use to do that all the time, my poor family couldn't keep up with me. But we don't know why she went into the water, remember that there are bobcats, bears, along with other wild life. I'm just sorry she is no longer here.
