September Trial Date Set For Wisconsin Police Chief

Posted Tuesday, July 3, 2012 --- 9:00 a.m.

VIROQUA, Wis. (AP) -- A trial date has been set for a western Wisconsin police chief accused of sexual assault and misconduct in office.

Shay Larson is facing two felony counts and six misdemeanor charges. Prosecutors say the 30-year-old used his position as chief in Readstown to leverage sexual favors while he was on duty and lied to investigators.

The La Crosse Tribune (http://bit.ly/P27VZy ) reports jury selection and a trial in Vernon County are scheduled for Sept. 25-26.

Judge Michael Rosborough granted a motion by Larson's attorney to sever the three felony counts from the six misdemeanor charges.

The trial will focus on three charges of misconduct in public office. Larson is suspected of turning a blind eye to crimes he witnessed and asking others not to report them.
