LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A 47-year-old western Wisconsin woman has joined an elite club of runners who have competed in marathons in 50 states.
The La Crosse Tribune reports Sheri Nichols, of Trempealeau, started with Grandma's Marathon in Duluth in 2005 and has since ran in 53 marathons altogether. Her most recent marathon was in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 8.
According to the 50 States Marathon Club Website, only about 3,300 people in the world have run marathons in all 50 states, including 75 Wisconsin residents.
Nichols says she's amazed how much she can apply the lessons she's learned from marathon running to daily life -- even the most mundane tasks, like tackling eight loads of laundry.
She says anything can be finished as long as you don't quit.
