UW Universities Get Overseas Recruitment Help

Posted Tuesday, April 17, 2012 --- 8:35 a.m.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is among a growing number of campuses turning to foreign agencies to recruit new students.

UW-Stout is also looking at recruiting agencies to attract international students, which can cost more than $1,000 per individual. But, universities say it can also mean more revenue.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram (http://bit.ly/IKPmpU ) says that during a four-year period, one international student will spend about $68,000 in tuition. UW-Eau Claire international education director Karl Markgraf says the school uses an organization called ICEF, which connects educators with agents. The university interviews the agents and trains them to select students that will be successful.

UW-Stevens Point has stopped using an agency that allegedly falsified admissions information to get foreign students accepted to U.S. colleges.
