Wardens Ask For Help On Illegal Dumps

Posted Sunday, September 16, 2012 --- 11:15 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State conservation wardens are asking for the public's help in catching those responsible for illegally dumping hazardous waste products in northwestern Wisconsin.

The Department of Natural Resources' Bureau Law Enforcement says sometime around Sept. 4, various paints, coatings and solvent wastes were discovered dumped around Siren in Burnett County and Frederic in Polk County. The illegal dumping occurred on private and public lands.

The DNR says illegal dumps have also been discovered in remote areas around Webster and Danbury in Burnett County.

Wardens say the hazardous waste poses a health risk to people, wildlife and groundwater. They say the waste should have been properly recycled or processed for disposal.

The DNR has a tip line. It's 1-800-TIP-WDNR (1-800-847-9367).
