Wednesday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Wednesday, April 11, 2012 --- 6:25 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Eight people have filed nomination papers to run in the recall election against Governor Scott Walker but at least one lacked enough signatures to qualify. Hopefuls had to submit at least 2,000 signatures by yesterday evening to get on the ballot. Four Democrats and one Republican running as a Democrat filed for the lieutenant governor's race. And the GOP lined up four people to run as Democrats in each Senate race.

DANE, Wis. (AP) -- Republican Governor Scott Walker has officially kicked off his campaign two months before the general election. He campaigned on a farm in Dane yesterday and said the recall is a test of political courage when it comes to which direction Wisconsin will go. Walker faces only the third gubernatorial recall election in U.S. history.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee firefighters have found the body of a 37-year-old man while battling a house fire. Authorities say there is no sign of foul play, and the cause of yesterday's fire is being investigated.

COLEMAN, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities believe last month's fire at a church in Oconto County of northeastern Wisconsin was set intentionally. The initial investigation determined the fire was not accidental. The Oconto County Sheriff's Department is asking the public for any information. Authorities say that a small, dark-colored car was seen in the parking lot.
