Wednesday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Wednesday, May 16, 2012 --- 7:50 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A 27-year-old Madison woman will have to stand trial after she was accused killing a mo-ped driver. Prosecutors say Ekaterina Topolkaraeva was drunk last year when she drove in the wrong lane last October, killing Jeffrey Droster.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Workers are dredging the polluted Fox River after a federal appeals court denied a company's request to postpone the work. NCR is under federal court order to remove and clean at least 660,000 cubic yards of sediment from the river. Meanwhile, legal wrangling continues over which paper companies will be held financially responsible for depositing toxic PCBs in the river.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Hundreds of high school seniors will meet in Ripon next month for the annual Badger Boys State program. The eight-day gathering kicks off June 9th and gives students a chance to learn about government, journalism and music.

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (AP) -- This weekend's Wisconsin State Polka Festival is moving to a new home to accommodate larger crowds. The festival had been held at a converted turkey barn in Concord. But a scheduling conflict means it's being relocated to an Oconomowoc resort. The festival kicks off on Friday and runs through the weekend.
