Wednesday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Wednesday, June 6, 2012 --- 9:05 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) -- Marinette Marine plans turn over the warship it built for the U.S. Navy today. The shipbuilder finished the 377-foot Fort Worth two months ahead of schedule. The ship is designed to patrol close to shore and can quickly switch from one combat mode to another.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The recall contest between Republican state Sen. Van Wanggaard and Democrat John Lehman is too close to call. Lehman has declared victory but Wanggaard refused to conceded, saying he'll review the results. Unofficial returns from yesterday's election in the 21st Senate District showed Lehman ahead of Wanggaard by fewer than 800 votes.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Governor Scott Walker looks to mend Wisconsin's political divide over brats and beers. Walker yesterday defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to become the nation's first governor to survive a recall election. The governor plans to invite all members of the Legislature to meet over burgers, brats and "maybe a little bit of good Wisconsin beer."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama's presidential campaign says the outcome of Wisconsin's recall election isn't what it had hoped for. Governor Scott Walker defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in yesterday's election. Tripp Wellde, the Wisconsin director of Obama's campaign, says the recall has sent a strong message to Walker about what Wellde calls "the politics of division."
