UPDATE: July 4th State Headlines

PRESCOTT, Wis. (KARE) - Pierce County Sheriff's Department says the missing 5-year-old boy with autism Scotty Meyer has been found safe.

Officials says the boy appears to be physically okay. The child was found in a wooded area near the Mississippi River about a 1/2 mile from his home.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department wants to thank all of the volunteers and searchers.

Scotty, who is a non-verbal autistic 5-year-old was last seen just before noon near his home in Prescott, Wis. on Tuesday.

Hundreds of volunteers showed up at Prescott High School to help search for Scotty Wednesday morning.

The Meyer family has three autistic children who were home Tuesday. They say an air conditioner repair man was at the home and two of the children slipped out. One was still in the yard but Scotty was nowhere to be found.

STOUGHTON, Wis. (AP) — Police in Stoughton say a missing 5-year-old boy has been found dead in a retention pound. The boy disappeared in the town south of Madison at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has agreed to enter bankruptcy court mediation with its creditors, most of whom are victims or alleged victims of sexual abuse by clergy or church workers. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the decision signals that one of the largest Catholic Church bankruptcy cases in the country could be coming to an end.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Janesville doesn't want to talk about whether he might be tapped to be Republican Mitt Romney's running mate. The Republican was asked yesterday what it's like to be vetted for vice president. He replied, "Next question."
